Drove out on the old Roman road, parked at the western shore, walked twenty minutes with the pack. Found a birch at the edge of a reed bed and tossed the line over a branch on the second try.

Forty metres opened first — twelve stations from DL and PA before I even had the thermos open. Switched to twenty around 15:00 UTC and picked up a long cluster of SP, OK, and a loud G4 portable. FT8 filled in the dead minutes between voice stations.

Best contact: a patient OE7 running QRP from the Tyrol, both of us at five watts, both of us laughing on the backchannel about propagation that shouldn’t exist.
